Why does prostatitis develop? Possible causes and risk factors

There are many reasons that provoke the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate gland (prostatitis). These are various sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, trichomoniasis), hormonal disorders, overweight, smoking and alcohol abuse.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland, causing discomfort, impeding sexual function and can cause inflammation of the testicles and epididymis, eventually leading to infertility. Pathology is observed in men of different ages, but is most common after 35-40 years of age. There are several reasons that prostatitis develops.

Acute and chronic infectious processes are a factor in the development of prostatitis

Most often, the cause of the development of the inflammatory process of the prostate gland is the action of infectious agents. The disease develops due to the penetration of infection into the prostate gland, the occurrence of disease caused by other diseases. Due to their development, the immune system is weakened, the process of reproduction of pathogenic microflora begins.

Prostatitis is caused by:

  • gonococci (the causative agent of gonorrhea);
  • chlamydia (pathogen of chlamydia);
  • Trichomonas (the causative agent of trichomoniasis);
  • cochlear bacilli (the causative agent of tuberculosis);
  • candida (the causative agent of candidiasis).

In addition, prostatitis develops under the influence of Escherichia coli, enterococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococci.

Violation of blood circulation in the pelvic region

The stagnation of blood and fluid in the pelvic region is the result of impaired blood flow in the vessels of this region. This phenomenon is related to factors such as sedentary lifestyle, sedentary, wearing underwear that is too tight, tight or jeans, tight pants, being overweight. Slow blood flow can be related to heart muscle disorders, diseases of the nervous system.

When such factors are present, blood does not flow to the prostate gland in sufficient quantity. This causes hypoxia and increases the risk of developing an inflammatory process.

Abstain from prolonged sexual intercourse, intercourse is often interrupted

If a man has not had sex for a long time, and if he practices intermittent intercourse as a method of contraception, then this causes prostatitis.

In the presence of these factors, a special fluid accumulates in the prostate gland - a secret that ensures the viability and motility of the sperm and, under normal conditions, is removed from it. When sex is abstinent and interrupted, this substance remains in the prostate or is only partially eliminated due to less ejaculation.

The blockage causes an increase in the size of the organ and its inflammation.

Hormonal disorder

Hormonal imbalance, in which the production of testosterone is disrupted, causes the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate gland.

Hormonal disruption occurs due to the following phenomena:

  • anomalies of the glands and organs of the endocrine system (thyroid, adrenal, pituitary);
  • testicular trauma, in which testosterone is produced;
  • lack of physical activity;
  • acute and chronic intoxication;
  • improper nutrition;
  • frequent stress;
  • living in an unfavorable ecological environment;
  • tumor.

Prostatitis can be the result of both a sharp decrease and a sharp increase in male sex hormone levels.

Injury and hypothermia

Mechanical damage to the pelvic organs and perineum causes obstruction of the prostate gland, leading to inflammation. If the wounds are severe, they can cause chronic prostatitis.

groin pain due to prostatitis

Pelvic hypothermia, which occurs when lying for a long time in drafts or by choosing the wrong outfit (not suitable for the weather) also causes an acute inflammatory process of the prostate gland. The important thing is that hypothermia reduces the body's defenses, under which condition, is unable to fight the developing disease.

Constant nervous tension

Prostatitis can be of a psychological nature. The risk group includes men who regularly experience stress, chronic sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue, and also have persistently increased mental stress.

The trigger in this case is the production of specific "stress" substances - so the nervous system responds to the situation. In such conditions, the risk of developing inflammation increases.

Bad habits and unhealthy diet

Alcohol and smoking negatively affect blood vessels, making them inelastic and fragile. As a result, the blood supply to the prostate gland decreases, which receives less nutrients and oxygen. In such conditions, inflammation develops.

Harmful foods: fatty and fried foods, semi-finished products, canned goods, pickles, as well as drinks such as strong tea and coffee, sweet sodas that lower immunity. As a result, the body is not able to fight off the agents that cause prostatitis.

Digestive problems that cause frequent constipation

If a person has irregular bowel movements or is constipated frequently, a biological disorder develops: in this case, the ratio of beneficial and harmful microorganisms changes in the digestive tract in the following direction. As a result, immunity decreases and the body is susceptible to pathogens. In addition, the retention of feces promotes the absorption of toxins into the colon, which also negatively affects the body's protective function.

Prostatitis is a disease that can cause infertility. This deviation occurs under the influence of many causes: from trauma of the pelvic organs to psychological factors. Finding the cause of prostatitis and eliminating it can only make progress in the treatment of the disease.
